DWIGHT D. SMITH SR., 68, of Huntington, W.Va., widower of Lillian Diane Withrow Smith, passed away Wednesday June 24, 2009, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Museum of Radio and Technology, Harveytown, by Pastor Bill Holley. Burial will follow in Hatfield Cemtery, Willow Wood, Ohio. He was born March 28, 1941, in Huntington, a son of the late Ralph Thomas and Thelma Rutherford Smith. He was a machinist with B.H. Mott and Son and McCorkle Machine and Engineering. He was a member of Grace Gospel Church, President of the Tri-State Amateur Radio Association, Board Member of the Museum of Radio and Technology, Cabell County Convention and Visitors Bureau of Huntington, American Rifle Association, Amateur Radio Relay League and was a licensed amateur radio operator. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Madge Smith. Survivors include a son and daughter in law D. Darryl Smith Jr., and Leanna S. Smith; two godchildren, Megan Montanna Harless of Huntington and Thomas Marshall Harless of Lynn Haven, Fla; best friend Belle Burgess, and special friend and canine companion Dorri. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Reger Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to the family to help cover medical and funeral expenses.
